The Disability and Discrimination Act talks about “dyslexia” as the hidden disability. It is characterised by mistakes with reading, writing and spelling. People with dyscalculia make mistakes with maths; those with ADD/ADHD experience problems with organisation and time keeping. Lack of knowledge and understanding can lead to discrimination.
Why do employees with these problems benefit a workplace? It is because they are often extremely: talented, innovative, creative, dynamic, intuitive, charismatic, excellent problem solvers. However, there can be problems; when under stress mistakes can be made, performance can be inconsistent, which can cost time, effort and money to sort out.
